8 Random Things about Me - A Meme
8 Random things you didn’t Know about Me
- I have a HUGE fear of failure. And, it appears that in
worrying constantly about failing I rarely, if ever, enjoy the rewards of
success.
- I love puzzles. I don’t have much time to enjoy them these
days, but I really love a challenging Jigsaw puzzle. I love them so much that
once I start one I can’t stand ANYONE touching them. This is probably because I want
to say that I completed it myself. One time I noticed someone had touched
my puzzle… I immediately went out and bought two huge shopping bags of jigsaw
puzzles. I had toddler puzzles all the way up to challenging adult puzzles.
This way there was no need for anyone to touch my puzzle…. they can easily
find their own puzzle to put together without touching mine.
- I love making people smile - Truly…. I love it!! I would
rather make people smile than doing something for myself. It gives me such
a good feeling to see a smile on someone’s face and knowing that I have the
ability to make someone happy.
- Tennis is my Sport of Choice - I love to play tennis!!
Am I any good? I think so…. But, even if I wasn’t I wouldn’t care. That’s how
much I love it… I just want to be playing. Last summer I bought my 11 year
old all the supplies he needed to play tennis. Did he ask for them? No. But,
this way I could have a tennis player available whenever I was ready to play. Good thing
he loves to play too.
- My Best Friend is my Younger Sister - And, she is one of the most talented and beautiful people that I know. I credit her for my online success as she is the one who introduced me to Web Design years ago. Plus, she is one of the few people that on a very difficult day could make me laugh till I cry or pee my pants…. whatever comes first.
- I give birth to Monster Babies - No lie. My largest baby was my daughter. Hannah weighed 11 pounds 12 1/4 ounces and she was born the OLD FASHIONED WAY a week earlier than planned. The doctors had no idea how large she was until she was born. It reminds me how amazing the human body is.
- I love Musicals!! - They are amazing to watch and I leave
feeling totally satisfied. Musicals are filled with multi-talented people
and I love watching that. It reminds me of the wonderful times I would spend
with my Grandma. Her and I would sit and watch old movies together. You know,
the movies with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. I loved watching movies with her.
- I have a Chronic Illness - Up until this point only a very few people know about this fact. I got very sick in July of 2006 and finally in August of 2007 I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. My immune system is overactive and attacks my own body parts. Unfortunately, the form of Lupus I have is the most severe…. my immune system is attacking my Central Nervous System and Brain. The diagnosis is still quite new and I am trying to deal with how my life has changed and will continue to change. I continue to morn the person I was prior to diagnosis and that is one of the hardest things I had to go through thus far. Some days I feel quite well while other days it is so difficult just to get out of the bed in the morning.
So, there you go…. 8 random things about me. Some you might not have known and others you might wish you still didn’t know about me. But, like it or not…… it’s me.
Thank you so much Julie for tagging me for this meme. I am tagging the following three for this Meme:

I really enjoyed this post Shana (well up until number 8!) Like I said on Twitter, I love tennis as well.
Good luck with number 8, if there is anything I can ever do let me know! I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to do when I move to Austin, TX - but I’ll do my best!

My sister Shana is the best ever … read her article - if you don’t know anything about her she is a Social Networking rock star, she is beautiful inside and out, and when I was a kids she used to take care of me as if she was my Mom (oh and she used to punch my bruises and tickle me until I peed - rotten to the core). Make sure to read number 8 - she wants to tell everyone something that has been on her mind. #5 made me cry…you are so lucky that I’m not wearing makeup. Love you Shana.

WOW, that’s a big baby.
Regarding your illness, you have my prayers. I know how chronic illness affects your life and simply changes everything as my wife has been struggling with her health for well over a year now.
Best regards, Anthony

@pratt - Thanks Taylor. Just knowing that you would help and that you care to say so is help enough. Like I said in the comments on your post it was a huge decision for me to tell people I am sick in a post, but I needed to. I felt like I wanted to be honest with the people I know and love online…. I felt like a fraud by pretending I’m well. Now I don’t have to pretend anymore.
@Old School - Thank you, Anothony. I appreciate that. Thank you for telling me about your wife. I’m sorry to hear that. I hope that she has better days than difficult ones. Thank you so much for your comments.

Wow! And I thought my babies were big. You go girl. I am deeply saddened to hear about your diagnosis and my prayers are with you too. Thank you for being so very transparent, once again, in your posts. You have no idea the positive impact you have on your readers. You are a blessing to the blogosphere!

Wow. 11 pounds? That is one big baby! But it just goes to show how strong you are - despite “bodily sickness” - Shana.
Thanks for posting these 8 random things about yourself; it seems that the more I learn of you the more you inspire me. I know you hear it a lot, but: you rock!

@Rae Rae (aka my sister) - Thanks, Rae. For everything. I love ya!!
@Edward Beckett - Thanks so much, Edward.
@Kristen - Thank you so much, Kristen. That is one of the sweetest things I ever heard. Thank you so much.
@Tanner - Thank you, Tanner. I don’t think anyone can hear, “you rock” enough… so, don’t hold back. Bring it on!!

You’ll be glad to know that your list is a success, at least with me
Web 2.0 is all about sharing, and having the courage to do so - sharing helps other share in turn. Great post!

Shana..I can relate to the tennis thing in a racquetball type of way. *-)
And while growing up, my sister and I were inseparable. I know that feeling well. We grew apart as the years went by for various reasons, but I’d love to know her that way again. I hope you never lose that bond.
And I’m truly sorry to hear that you are facing an illness as terrible as this. Horrible things happen to the most beautiful people. My heart and prayers are with you and your family. Maybe there’s a way for this to be conquered.

Thank you all for your support. I truly appreciate it…. and this applies to all the comments left. Telling my readers about my Lupus has been something I have been discussing with my family for some time. I don’t like to share my flaws with people, but in order for me to not let Lupus take away the best of me I need to accept it and live with it. I think that in sharing this subject with my viewers will help me to accept it.

I just, literally, stumbled upon you tonight and I want you to know that you have the prayers of a random internet stranger in your corner and I wish you all the best.

Thanks for sharing these 8 things about yourself I really enjoyed reading this (except #8 of course).
Shana you are so supportive of so many people I hope you know that there are lot’s of people (myself included) who care and would like help in any way we can.
And about those babies… I already respected you but now I think you’re Wonder Woman!!

Hah. Got you beat on the monster baby front. Try these 4 kids… 10 lbs 5.0z, 10 lbs 6 oz, 9 lbs 13 oz. and the monster…11 lbs 14 oz. Bonnie, our youngest, is just a regular kid with normal size and weight.

I am having trouble typing calmly after reading about that big baby…OH MY GOD. If I wore a hat, I’d take it off for you, holy cow.
Regarding your having lupus, I am so sorry to hear that and will think positive thoughts for you. My son has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and I’ve seen how autoimmune disorders can really disrupt your life. Glad you shared that with everyone, as you’re truly someone that EVERYONE seems to be nuts about.

Wow, how special are you?
I’d have to say very.
Loved this peek inside, thanks for the share.

@swags2804 - Thank you so much Nick. Very kind of you to say.
@Jenn Osborne - Thank you for all your support. You have been there once or twice already for me and I truly appreciate that.
@Eric - Wow….. that is a bunch of very large babies. You must have an amazing wife. Isn’t it amazing what the human body can accomplish.
@Julie Joyce - Julie…. I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. It really was so terribly hard for me to tell the truth about my health. For some reason I have thought of me having a chronic illness being a sign of failure and felt if people found out they would think I was a failure. Hearing you tell me about your son with juvenile rheumatoid reminded me that a chronic illness is not a sign a failure, but something that I can learn to live with… and that people can admire me regardless of my health. Thank you for telling me about your son…knowing that children are amazing creatures and are so very strong reminds me that I can be too. Thank you, Julie.

It’s great that you can share all these things! You’re a special individual. I’m sorry about #8, but if you have the strength to fight it. I’ve been off line for a few days, but thanks for tagging me. My list won’t compare with yours, but I’ll try to make some good reading!

What do you do with the puzzles when you are done? I visited an eclectic house that had several puzzles completed, laminated, and put up as pictures. The story was the best part because of the mother son duo put them together. I didn’t pay that much attention but I wonder how they got a puzzle through a laminating machine without it breaking? I am sure they used laminate sheets. But the idea of putting it through a machine is comical.

Wow! That’s a really big baby! She looks like a month old. Amazing! ^^
